At LNCA, we use Conscious Discipline. Conscious Discipline is a social-emotional learning program. Designed by Dr. Becky Bailey, the program supports first teaching ourselves about self-control and self-regulation, and then teaching children. We make direct eye contact with each child and explain the situation so he or she can understand the reason for our requests. Also, a technique in which teachers use no talk and no emotion from the teacher and allows the child to change the behavior.

Each child is individual and will develop as such. Chronological age has much to do with both physical and psychological development, However, many other factors affect the way our children grow and mature. Wait until you feel comfortable that he or she is ready to move up and then spend some time observing the classroom to see how the other children interact with each other. That will be a good way for you to judge his or her readiness. Some children just need extra time to grow and develop. In the end, waiting until he or she is ready will make the transition much easier and smoother for everyone.
